Good morning~ ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ Today I’d like to talk about commissions for a bit!
Earlier last month I was commissioned by one of my mom’s coworkers to do a large portrait in marker of her daughter as a Christmas present. What took me by surprise was that she wanted it in a realistic style, which is a style in which I do not have a lot of experience because I typically draw in an “anime” style. But since the last section of my AIS course deals pretty exclusively with realism anyway, I decided to take the challenge! So earlier this month (after NaNo ended) I watched a few YouTube videos and got started!

I first practiced using my own character as a guinea pig (with no reference), and then later sketched the commission.
I will say, doing realism in marker is definitely more challenging than, say, pencil, because you can only go from light to dark. In addition, there is a limited amount of color you can load on the paper before it won’t accept any more and makes a blank spot, and aside from that you have to deal with streaking… It’s harder to make it blur when your markers are getting dry from having blended so much in the picture already;;; Maybe I over-blend; I don’t know. Lol

But anyway, somehow I did it!! ヽ(;▽;)ノ I have one more commission to finish that’s already half done, and then prints to work on. Also I’ll be holding a Christmas After Party Livestream on one of the days after Christmas. I haven’t concretely decided yet because I’m not entirely sure what the family schedule will be that weekend, but it will be one of those days. If you’d like to watch me work on prints and make a sketch request then by all means, come join me! (=´∀`)人(´∀`=) My username on Livestream is fireaangel, the same as my deviantART.
And Merry Christmas, guys!! It’s almost here! ♪( ´θ`)ノ
(2015 edit) Livestream was recorded; you can view here:
